How to become RBT Certified.

To become certified as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), a nationally recognized credential, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board requires a few prerequisites to be met.

You must:
Be 18 years or older.
Have a high school diploma or GED, at minimum.
Pass a background check.

If you meet these requirements, your steps are simple but must be completed in sequence.

  • Complete a 40-hour course (That’s where we come in!)
  • Take and pass an initial skills competency assessment proctored by an instructor licensed by the BACB.
  • Apply to become an RBT through the BACB. (We can help with that.)
  • Take and pass the RBT exam. (You’re on your own here, but we promise you’ll feel completely prepared for this step.)

After you pass, congratulations! You’re certified nationally to work as a Registered Behavior Technician.

To maintain your status as an RBT, you must renew your certification annually through an authorized assessor.
